Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched an airstrike early Thursday morning against Hezbollah’s stronghold in Beirut’s southern suburbs in an escalation in hostilities between them, neutralizing a strategic unit responsible for using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for surveillance and attempted attacks against Israeli territory, according to Israeli military officials.

“UNIFIL is deeply alarmed at this development and urges all sides involved to uphold their obligations under international law and Resolution 1701,” read a UNIFIL statement.
While diplomatic sources in Washington and Paris expressed alarm over the possibility of wider clashes, and encouraged an immediate return to peace.
